Musical Shape Shifters

Sistema Bomb is a Grammy-Nominated cross-border collaboration between musicians in México and the United States, where heritage meets the digital age. The project is a brainchild of Héctor "Hecdog" Pérez, who uses his sonic palate to create new interpretations of music from various regions of México. Using metronomic beats and electronics, Sistema Bomb delivers beloved traditional genres to a broader commercial audience. Sistema Bomb's debut Album, "Electro-Jarocho", was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Latin Rock, Urban, Or Alternative Album.

New ALBUM-2024

In their Grammy-nominated debut album, Electro-Jarocho, Sistema Bomb created a unique blend of traditional Jarocho music with electronic elements and modern beats. With their second album, Electro-México releasing in Early 2024, Sistema Bomb looks to expand its musical offerings by creating new interpretations of a broader field of traditional Mexican music.

Quien es Hecdog?

Héctor "Hecdog" Pérez is an Oakland-based music composer and producer. Born and raised in Los Angeles by his Mexican-born parents, Hecdog hails from the prestigious Hamilton High Music Academy in Los Angeles, which has produced some of today's leading musicians such as Abe Laboriel Jr (Paul McCartney), Asdru Sierra (Ozomatli), Ron Blake (Green Day, Poncho Sanchez), Mike Elizondo (Eminem, Dr Dre), Mike Reagan (award winning composer), and multi-Grammy winning engineer, Manny Marroquin. Pérez studied Electronic Music at UC Berkeley and graduated with Honors while participating in ground-breaking research projects at the University's Center for New Music and Audio Technologies.

With a fresh degree from one of the nation's most prestigious universities, Hecdog was hired at A&M Records, where he worked with Motley Crue, Los Fabulosos Cadillacs, and Bon Jovi. He was then scooped up by his Alma Mater, UC Berkeley, as the Music Department's head Audio Engineer. Hecdog was then discovered by one of Bay Area's leading music companies, Michael Boyd Music and was soon promoted to West Coast Creative Director, where Pérez scored music on commercials for Coca Cola, Reebok, Adidas, Levis, Toyota, and Nike among many others. During this time, Pérez released 3 albums under the name MOX, and got signed to RGB Records.

In 2001, Héctor founded Music Orange, which later partnered with Hank Smith Music to form Music Orange, Inc., where he scored hundreds of spots for clients such as Apple, HP, Sony, Adidas, Google, Yahoo, & VISA. One of those spots for the NFL was awarded an Emmy for best sports promo.

In 2003, Hecdog co-produced an album for his award-winning Bay Area-based band O-MAYA, and later co-scored Daughter From Danang which won the Grand Jury award at the Sundance Film Festival and was subsequently nominated for an Academy Award. He also co-scored the HBO film and Sundance winner, My Flesh and Blood in 2004.

While continuing to work on music for TV and advertising, Hecdog was tapped to mix and co-produce Maldita Vecindad's album Circular Colectivo in 2010.  In 2012, Hecdog released his first solo album, Electro-Jarocho, under his new moniker, Sistema Bomb. The album featured a number of cross-border collaborations that celebrated the folkloric music of Veracruz, called Son Jarocho. The very next year, the Recording Academy honored Hecdog with a Grammy Nomination for Best Latin Rock, Urban, or Alternative Album. That same year, Pérez mixed and co-produced Sembrando Flores by Los Cojolites, which was also nominated for a Grammy award for Best Regional Mexican Album. The two nominations marked the first time in the Recording Academy's 55-year history that it recognized the Son Jarocho Genre

After his illustrious musical career and impressive success with Sistema Bomb, Pérez was inducted into the UC Berkeley Wall Of Fame. In 2014, he was featured and interviewed on NPR's award winning program, FORUM with Michael Krasny.

In 2019, Pérez scored the music to La Serenata, which won the audience award for Best Short Film at the Queer Women of Color (QWOC) Film Festival in San Francisco and was featured on HBO.

In 2023, Héctor "Hecdog" Pérez will release his second Sistema Bomb Album, Electro-México. You can also still hear his current commercial music playing on all advertising media platforms.
